Summer Ideas for Teenagers

Are you wondering what your child is going to do this summer now that many jobs, camps and programs have been cancelled? No need to worry. I have been researching and am here to tell you that there are many options out there for students from grade 6 through college. There may be those who want to take college classes and perhaps receive college credit they can use, summer camps that have created some online options, or perhaps students who want to volunteer.

Here are just a few different examples:

  • Wake Forest Online Immersion programs is designed for students in grades 9-12. It covers topics in depth through online coursework led by WFU professors and WFU School of Medicine professors. The program’s online format allows kids to study anywhere, anytime while working at your own pace. Immersion areas include Medicine, Psychology, Business and Writing.

  • Volunteering? Be My Eyes would invite students in 9-12th grades bring “sight” to blind and low vision people. Be My Eyes is a free app that connects blind and low vision people with sighted volunteers and company representatives for visual assistance through a live video call.

  • Musically inclined? Berklee Songwriting Workshop invites the student to immerse themselves in the art of songwriting and discover effective rhythm, melody, harmony and lyrical techniques. During the 12-week online program, students learn from experts about writing, recording and producing songs that will be successful in today’s music industry. Collaborate with other songwriters from around the world. A final grade of B or higher earns 3 college credits which can be applied to an undergraduate program at Berklee or another college or university.

I have collected a tremendous amount of options and ideas for all types of students. Feel free to contact me to discuss at 847-945-0913. There are many opportunities to still gain substantial, enjoyable experience this summer!
